The immune system of an individual consists of organs, cells, tissues and proteins. All of these together carry out bodily processes that fight off pathogens i.e. the viruses, bacteria and foreign bodies that may cause infection or disease. As when the immune system comes in direct contact with a pathogen, it triggers an immune response. As a result of which our immune system releases antibodies, which attach to antigens on the pathogens and kill them. A healthful, balanced diet plays a vital role in staying well and make our immune system stronger. The following food may help an individual to boost his/her immune system



. Blueberries


Blueberries contains a type of flavonoid called anthocyanin, which has the antioxidant properties that can help to boost a person’s immune system. This flavonoids play an essential role in the respiratory tract’s immune defence system. As the people who ate foods rich in flavonoids were less likely to get an upper respiratory tract infection or even common cold than those who did not.


. Dark Chocolate


The dark chocolate contains an antioxidant agent called theobromine, which help to boost the immune system of an individual by protecting the body’s cells from free radicals. These free radicals are the molecules that the body produces when it breaks down food or comes in contact with the pollutants. These free radicals can damage the body’s cells and may contribute to disease. Despite of many potential benefits of dark chocolate, it also rich in calories and saturated fat, so it is important to eat it in moderation.


. Turmeric


Consuming turmeric may improve a person’s immune response as it has cur cumin compound in it. This cur cumin has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects which is used in the treatment of both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. This cur cumin act as an immune booster and an antiviral.


. Broccoli


Broccoli is the rich source of Vitamin C and also contains potent antioxidants such as sulforaphane. For these reasons, this is a good choice of vegetable to eat regularly in order to support our immune system health.

Sweet potatoes are rich source of beta carotene, a type of antioxidant that gives the skin of the potatoes its orange color. This beta carotene is a rich source of Vitamin A. It helps to make skin healthy and may even provide protection against skin damage from Ultra Violet (UV) rays.

Spinach contains many essential nutrients and antioxidants such as Flavonoids, Carotenoids, Vitamin C and Vitamin E which help an individual to support his/her immune system. The flavonoids may also help to prevent the common cold in the healthy people.

Ginger has anti-inflammatory and ant oxidative properties which is very good for health. Ginger also decrease the inflammation, which help to reduce a sore throat, nausea and inflammatory illnesses. Ginger contains gingerol which is an antioxidant agent that help to power up the immune system of an individual and kill the various viruses. It also help in preventing the respiratory tract infection.


. Garlic


Garlic is a common home remedy which protect us from colds and other illness. Garlic contain the supplement containing allicin which reduce the risk of getting a cold. Garlic also slow down hardening of the arteries and also helps in lowering blood pressure of an individual. Garlic has a heavy concentration of sulphur-containing compounds, such as allicin which is very good agent to boost immune system of an individual.


. Sunflower Seeds


Sunflower seeds are a rich source of vitamin E, an antioxidant which improves the immune function. It does this by fighting off free radicals in your body which can damage cells. Sunflower seeds are full of nutrients such as Magnesium, Vitamin B 6 and E and Phosphorous. Vitamin E is important in regulating and maintaining immune system function of an individual. The other foods with high amounts of Vitamin E may include avocados and dark leafy greens. The sunflower seeds are also incredibly high in selenium.

Almonds are another excellent source of Vitamin E and also contain magnesium, manganese and fibre. A small handful or a quarter of a cup of almonds is a healthful snack that may strengthen the immune system. Almonds are powerful antioxidant and is key to a healthy immune system. Nuts such as almonds is packed with the vitamin and also have healthy fats.

The people who are trying to avoid the sugar in fruit, red bell peppers are an excellent alternative source of Vitamin C. Stir-frying and roasting both preserve the nutrient content of red bell peppers which are better than steaming or boiling, according to a study on cooking methods. If you think that citrus fruits have the most Vitamin C of any fruit or vegetable you are wrong as an ounce for ounce, red bell peppers contain almost 3 times as much Vitamin C as a Florida orange. Red Bell Pepper are also a rich source of beta carotene. Besides boosting your immune system Vitamin C may also help you to maintain a healthy skin. Beta Carotene which your body converts into Vitamin A, also helps to keep your eyes and skin healthy.
