Breaking News: India Bans 59 Chinese Mobile Applications
The government of India Banned 59 Chinese mobile applications, including top social media platforms apps such as TikTok, Helo, Cam Scanner and We Chat, to counter the threat posed by these applications to the “sovereignty and security” of the country. Share IT, UC Browser and Shopping App Club Factory are among the other prominent apps that have been blocked amid rising tensions between India and China following clashes at the border two weeks ago. These apps are blocked a day before third round of talks between India and Chinese Military commander to resolve the border stand-off issue.
The government said that these applications are engaged in activities of “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.” The ban of these apps has been imposed under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. The government of India are getting complaints about the data on Indian users being transferred abroad unauthorised.
This move of blocking the Chinese apps could come as a blow to China’s Digital Silk Route ambitions, eroding the valuation of the companies.
