Artificial Intelligence – It’s Advantages and Disadvantages

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a wide ranging branch of computer science that is concerned with building of smart machines or devices that are capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence and human brain. Artificial Intelligence is one of the emerging technologies which tries to simulate human reasoning in form of AI systems. The Artificial Intelligence was invented by John McCarthy in the year 1950.

Advantages of Artificial Intelligence

. Reduction in Human Error

The phrase “human error” was born because humans make so many mistakes from time to time. However with the help of computers these mistakes can be minimized if they are programmed properly. With AI, the decisions are taken from the previously gathered information applying a certain set of algorithms which in terms reduced errors and the chances of reaching accuracy with a greater degree of precision.

Example: In Weather Forecasting. Using AI in weather forecasting the majority of human error can be reduced.

. Takes Risks Instead of Humans

With the help of developing AI Robot many risky limitations of humans can be overcome which in turn can do the risky things for us. May it be going to mars, defusing a bomb, explore the deepest parts of oceans, mining for coal and oil, it can be used effectively with the help of Artificial Intelligence.

Example: With the help of AI Robots the effect of radiation during nuclear power explosion can be minimized. As we can eventually poured sand and boron from helicopters from a mere distance with the help of AI Robots.

. Available 24*7

As we all know that an average human can work for only 4–6 hours a day excluding the breaks. As humans are built in such a way to get some time out for refreshing themselves and making themselves ready to do some new work. But by using Artificial Intelligence we can make machines to work 24x7 without any break and they do not even get bored, unlike humans.

Example: Educational Institutes and Helpline Centres are getting many queries and issues from different users which can be handled effectively by using AI.

. Helping in doing Repetitive Jobs

In our day-to-day work, we are performing many repetitive works such as sending a thanking mail, verifying certain documents for errors and many more other things. So by using artificial intelligence we can productively automate these mundane tasks and can even remove these boring tasks of humans and free them up to be increasingly creative.

Example: In banks, we often see many verification of documents to get a loan which must be a repetitive task for the owner of the bank. So with the help of using Artificial Intelligence Cognitive Automation the owner can speed up the process of verifying the documents by which both the customers and the owner will be benefited.

. Digital Assistance

Some of the highly advanced organizations use digital assistant’s devices that will interact with users which saves the need for human resources. Digital Assistant used in many websites to provide things that users want. Some chat bots are designed in such a way that it become hard to determine that we are chatting with a chat bot or a human being.

Example: We all know that many organizations have a customer support team that needs to clarify the doubts and queries of the customers. So, by using AI the organizations can set up a Voice Bot or Chat Bot which can help customers with all type of their queries.

. Daily Applications

Daily applications such as Apple’s - Siri, Window’s - Cortana and Google’s - OK Google are frequently used in our daily routine life whether it may be for searching a location, taking a selfie, making a phone call or replying to an email.

Example: 20 years ago, when we are plan to go somewhere we used to ask a person who already went there for the directions. But now we have to do is to say “OK Google where is Visakhapatnam”. It will show you Visakhapatnam’s location on Google map and the best path that you can travel to reach Visakhapatnam.

Disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence

. High Costs of Creation

As Artificial Intelligence is updating day-by-day. So we need to update the hardware and software need from time-to-time to meet the latest requirements. So, in order to meet the latest requirement the machines need repairing and maintenance which need plenty of costs. As its creation requires huge costs as these are very complex machines.

. Making Humans Lazy

Applications automating with the help of Artificial Intelligence help the human to do majority of their work. But this in turns make humans a bit lazy as humans tend to get addicted to these type of inventions which can cause a huge problem to the future generations.

. Unemployment

As Artificial Intelligence is replacing the majority of the repetitive tasks and other works with robots. So, the human interference is becoming less which will cause a major problem in the employment standards. As, every organization is looking to replace the minimum qualified individuals with Artificial Intelligence robots which can do similar work with more efficiency and in minimal time.

. Artificial Intelligence Can Be Programmed To Do Something Very Devastating

Autonomous weapons are artificial intelligence systems that are programmed to kill someone. So, if these autonomous weapons come in the hands of the wrong person, these weapons could easily cause mass casualties. Moreover, an Artificial Intelligence arms race could inadvertently lead to an Artificial Intelligence war that may results in mass casualties. So in order to avoid being thwarted by the enemy, these weapons would be designed to be extremely difficult.

So, in conclusion i would say that every coin has two faces so as AI. So, we as humans need to take care of the negative effect of AI and use the positive sides for the invention to create a better world.
